A Taste of Morocco
This Studio City condominium rooftop was in need of cooling down! Thus, inspired by the celebrated Majorelle Garden in Marrakesh, we created the “Blue Oasis.”
Walls of painted trellis provided screening from neighboring rooftops and a place for bougainvillea to weave a carpet of color. The floor was refinished in a desert sand tone. A mirror-backed shelf serves as display or bar, and a new storage cabinet keeps stuff out of sight. The shaded dining tent was created with copper poles and sunbrella fabric.
Cypress in copper boxes and potted washingtonia palms draw in the borrowed landscape. Succulents, scented geraniums, herbs, and citrus grow in a mix of glazed and raw clay pottery, giving a casual, garden feel to the space.
An outdoor shower near the sunning area is good for a rinse-off on a hot day. An automatic drip irrigation system services the plantings, and attention was given to create a warm amber light at night with a combination of authentic Moroccan iron sconces and up-lighting of the cypress.
